Over the past years, we've been hosting community gamenight events on the classic Half-Life 1 mod where it started it all. As time passed on and with the release of HL 25th's anniversary update in 2023, the Zombie Panic 1 mod has been having more gameplay and technical issues, from constant crashes and other ancient problems, ruining our player's experiences who wishes to play it.

Recently, our lead programmer decided to shape things up and bring ZP1 to a better-decent state for today's standards, from quality-of-life changes, to fully rewriting the source code from the ground up, making compatible for modern systems. We've been experimenting and playtesting this new build very closely with few veterans of the community, helping us shape the best version.

We wanted to go a little further with this, wishing more people would know about it and play it. Therefore, after 20 years, we're very excited to finally announce Zombie Panic 1's official Store Page!

What's new?
  • Everything you know from the original GoldSrc mod, maintaining the same gameplay feel and mechanics from the former team.

  • Full support to the Half-Life 25th anniversary update, preventing game crashes and any compatibility issues to modern systems.

  • Implementation of Steam Achievements and Steam Workshop support.

  • Improved classic official maps visuals and gameplay with a new random item spawners.

  • New first-person and third-person animations with new player models and weapons.

  • New CVARs for players & server admins, and new mapping entities for better balance.

  • New fatigue system to prevent unnecessary bunnyhop, removing the old 'jump delay'.

  • New Zombie vision, new ammobank HUD to manage all of your ammunition, new inventory icons, and a bunch of new unique decals/textures/sounds made by community members.

  • Rewritten source code using 'BugfixedHL' as a base

As a bonus, we've uploaded the source code to GitHub[github.com], making Zombie Panic 1 opensourced!

How can I play it?

We're current developing and playtesting the build with a limited group of veterans to easily track down game bugs and other suggestions before opening the doors to the rest of the community. If you wish to participate, join our ZPS Discord server[discord.gg] and request a Steam key in the ZP1 channel by pinging Jonnyboy.

When will it release?

We're planning to do a full release on March 10th, 2026 if all goes well.

In the meantime, please consider following/wishlisting Zombie Panic! on Steam Store page and join our Official Discord server[discord.gg] to check out the development process of the ongoing build. You can also leave your support directly to our lead programmer who is solo developing the build!

We'll see you up head,

Zombie Panic! Team
